Wallace K. Beck Jr., 73, of Fredericksburg, Md., died July 2 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Born in Hilo, he was retired from General Electric, a U.S. Army veteran and loved Hawaii, its music, competitive sports and ‘ohana. Maria Ybanez Bunghanoy, 94, of Hilo, formerly of Kailua-Kona, died July 4 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Bohol, Cebu, Philippines, she was a housekeeper for Uncle Billy’s Kona Bay Hotel and member of St. Michael the Archangel Church. Visitation 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 25) at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Kailua-Kona. Mass at 11:30 a.m. Casual attire. Burial at Kona Memorial Park. Miles Stephen Fry, 87, of Kailua-Kona died Aug. 5. Born in Iola, Kan., he was an aeronautical engineer, professional model maker, U.S. Navy pilot and Korean War veteran and made scale models of Hawaiian racing canoes and full-rigged sailing ships, builder and flyer of radio-controlled airplanes and charter member of Kona Flying Club. Celebration of life 9 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 25) at Old Kona Airport, north-end beach pavilion. Casual attire; no flowers. Memorial donations to Polynesian Voyaging Society or charity of choice.
